A five minute snapshot.

This parenting thing is hard. I bet you had no idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The twos have been upon us for a while but these past two weeks Emerson has really upped his level of unstable. Bless his heart. ๐Ÿ˜‰
It’s a whirlwind mixed in with the sweet moments that remind how dear this tornado child is to me. I need those moments. I try desperately not to sigh at him in exhaustion or let him know just how UP TO HERE I am with his behavior because he’s a tender little heart. He’s learning our world. Our ways. I can imagine he sighs his own number of times a day out of his own self imposed exhaustion.
That’s a good word. Just in five minutes…
Emerson woke from nap screaming as he has does since we were in the hospital. He’s two now, have I mentioned that. Some days he wakes happy. Other days…other days I know immediately I wish it were bedtime.
PS I’m a good mom. A mom who loves my child. A mom who’s sits and plays for hours. I’d take this craziness any day because I do get to be his mom, and that rocks. This is also reality.
So today after nap I pleasantly said:
“Emerson. Do you know what today is? Today is Thursday. ”
Emerson replied, ” NO!” With minimal whimpering about this horrid news. “I not like Thursday! Nooo!”
This traumatic news has brought on tears after thinking about it for ten seconds…tears.
“But honey that’s not a bad thing, it is just the day of the week. It’s Thursday” (happy tone, Thursdays aren’t terrible, right?)
Flailing, kicking, rolling on the kitchen floor, screaming “It’s not Thursday! It’s not! It’s not! I no like that! It’s not Thursday!”
I mean…who knew? Thursdays are the new Monday?
This ended with sobbing and a trip to calm down town sitting in his room for a few minutes. And that sums up that five minutes.
How do I equally want to die laughing over the ticking time bomb that tantrums are and also hate them with a passion.
Two years old. It’s the cutest, most high energy craziness ever….ever.

This kid…

This kid of ours is officially a mess. He is climbing, jumping, falling, digging, diving…all of it. All the time. And mostly while he’s sweaty and dirty.

I personally had no idea an almost two year old could sweat SO MUCH! But even sweaty, he’s pretty cute!

Here are some pics of what he’s been up to..

Can you tell he is focused? Can you tell he is determined? Can you tell he HATES being “stuck”? I mean….end of the world.

He could not be more fun and all his determination and focus and need for things to be a certain way…all skills that God will mold into something amazing. And I get to be a part of it!

So cool!

๐Ÿ˜‰ Happy Wednesday!

Must attack mommy.

We once had the “I’ll never smile for a photo” child. Actually he still looks pretty focused in most pictures and I may need to reassure him when he gets older that he DID have a ton of fun as a toddler. Lately he has a new picture look. He has picked mommy to be the prize winner of this look.ย

When asked to take a picture with mommy, this happens:

Apparently “say cheese” translates as “I must now go insane and I MUST attack mommy” … don’t worry, mommy attacks back. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย

For a week and a day…

For a week and a day we have been SOOOO busy! I know. I know. I have one kiddo. The moms of four or more are rolling their eyes at this very moment. I gotcha. YOU are busy. But in our world…it’s been busy for us. I don’t thrive in busy-ness. I get very distracted and unorganized. Death for a mom. Like when the sweetest lady at Chick-fil-a set my freshly refilled LARGE drink down today and my hands did not beat the little hands I’m in charge of. OH. BOY. :/ Thankfully my friend who was in the line of fire was quick and avoided being soaked before her long drive home to Mississippi. Wheewww. ย I think all moms have probably had a similar moment and felt just as embarrassed…but somehow you don’t remember that when all eyes are on you. AH!

To our joy it hasn’t all been crazy like that. It’s been meeting with friends, going to games, prepping for studies, sick kids, running errands, going to parties, and all that “life” kind of busy. I’m generally a protector of “down time” so ย that “life” busy is SO good for a while but when it breaks…. HOORRAAYYYY!!!

This week we head to Oklahoma to visit family while Adam has a fun FSM retreat and I couldn’t be more excited. Emerson gets to see people who love him dearly and that’s a treasure. Busy or not.

Here’s a few pics I managed to get this past week…

I always laugh when I talk about being busy and then upload pics that make it look like we’ve just lounged around! lol We are obviously very into coloring, cars, choo-choos, and being a wiggle worm! ย There are many days that I’d be content to freeze him at this age because he is just SO FUN! But I have heard it just gets better so I guess I won’t. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Live this day with JOY! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Emerson’s first big fall

Emerson…buddy boy,

This past week, at 19 months you had your first really significant fall. Not just a bumped head but a real fall that resulted in real blood. And a mom who was really sad she didn’t move just a tad quicker.

Mom was doing her workout class and when it ended I went in to where you were playing with some friends. An indoor play area with a climbing net and a slide and all that fun stuff (think McDonalds but safer, cleaner, and a place I would want you to play). ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย So anywho…you saw me and as usual you got bright eyed with a big grin and came to find your way out of the area when you found yourself at the top of the climbing net. Mommy had grabbed your shoes and was at the bottom of the net telling you “I’m coming, wait just a second” when it happened. With a huge smile you stepped onto the net and your first few seconds came with graceful sliding down until your foot got caught. sigh. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ You flipped swiftly forward and your sweet face went smack down onto the level I was on. Right in front of my face. Double ๐Ÿ˜ฆ You immediately had blood all over your face and I swept you up as quickly as possible. Friends rushed to get paper towels and you buried your increasingly bloody face into my shoulder and wept. And wept.

If only I’d gotten there a second sooner. But I didn’t. There was bound to be a day that I didn’t.

Oh how thankful I am for just a bloody, and noticeably fat (but still adorable) lip. Thankful that all that blood wasn’t more serious and that you’re alright. Thankful that I get to be the one to clean you up, make sure you’re alright and hold you tight. You clung pretty tight to me that whole morning. I can’t say I minded that. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Ahhh yes, I’m a boy mom and this will undoubtedly happen again. But this first big fall I will never forget.

I love you sweet boy. I love you and your big fat lip. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Guess what.

This book…

It’s become a staple in our day.
It’s THE choice. Like the only choice for Emerson. He chooses it at least four times a day and thinks it is HI-larious. He also calls that guy in the top left Dada, which mommy finds hilarious. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I can’t figure out my favorite page. Let me show you my top two. I’m sorry in advance…or maybe I’m not, I’m the one reading it 20 plus times per week. ๐Ÿ™‚

The man with the pipe…keepin it classy (just like me, here with this post).
Nรบmero dos (pun intended)

Indeed they do….Emerson.
Indeed they do.
